Elisa Graduation!!!!!!

At long last, Elisa has graduated Calvary Bible College York in December! What an exciting time this has been for all of us. Elisa has worked hard for this and we are so proud of her. She is now working with us on a placement program through the school.
She also has a part-time job at a local pub/restaurant. She is still doing an on-line discipleship class with Emmi and just finished a study with a young lady at church.
We are so blessed to have her here with us for alittle while longer as the Lord is taking her back to the states. She will be moving back to Cottonwood and assisting Calvary Chapel Verde Valley wherever they can use her.

Thank you everyone that has been praying for her over the years to get her visa and to be able to finish college. We will miss her, but know the Lord has plans for her that are greater than ours.

Evie’s mom goes home to be with the Lord

Two years ago, mom was diagnosed with cancer. At that time, the doctors did surgery to remove the cancer in her face and gave her a 3% chance of surviving the surgery. God gave her another 2 years pain free before taking her home—praise God! During the last few weeks, mom talked with the Lord quite often and shared with my sister Terry and I that she was ready to go home. The Lord took her in her sleep just as she wanted - to go to sleep and wake in the presence of the Lord. We were blessed to be able to attend her memorial service and praise God for her. December 15th is mom’s new birthday as it will be remembered as her first day in the presence of the Lord!

Christmas in the States

Mom’s going home not only brought us home for her memorial service, but allowed us the opportunity of celebrating Christmas with our family! It was such a blessing to be there with family although we were all (Ken, Evie and Elisa) sick! Ken was sick the day of the memorial and the entire time we were there. We all were sick for about 3 weeks after returning, but are now feeling ourselves again. It was such a blessing to be able to go and not worry about the church as Scott and Patti were there and things just carried on as normal.

Hogmanay

We got back from the states just in time to celebrate Hogmanay (New Year’s Eve) with the church. We celebrated with a party at our house as we played games, ate lots of goodies thanks to Patti’s baking and had fireworks and a great time of fellowship! We had a great time and what better way to bring in the New Year than with family and friends.


Church

Please be in prayer with us as we seek God’s leading and direction for the coming year as we plan outreaches and various ministry opportunities. Should you or your church be looking for a missionary trip this year, we pray that you consider Scotland, a country that once was known as the Land of the Bible, but now seems to have turned it’s back on the Lord.

Learning to Drive again!

As you may know, Ken works at The Bridges Behavioural Support School working with troubled teens. Part of the job requires that he transport them to various activities and so he now needs to have a British driving license for the job. Please keen him in your prayers as he is studies for the test. Sounds easy, but is really quite difficult as even though we have been driving here for 8 years, the laws are different, but similar enough to cause confusion when sitting down to take the written, it does get confusing as you think is that a US law or is it the British law? He will not only have to take the theory test, but the practical (driving) exam as well. Praise God, his job is paying as it is quite expensive, he will be taking a test to drive 15 passenger vans and requires an even tougher test and more fees.

Janet

We are so blessed to have a gifted songwriter/composer in our fellowship. Janet is so gifted of the Lord in these areas and we are blessed to be helping her launch her CD’s. Her current CD is entitled Still Waters and is an instrumental that will totally blow you away. Once they are ready, we will let you know as I’m sure they will bless you as they have us.

Emmi born-again and baptized

What an exciting time this has been! Emmi and Janika came for a visit after being away alittle over a year now. In case you don’t remember, they were both exchange students from Finland and Germany. Elisa did a weekly bible study with them both during their stay in Scotland. While Janika was born-again, Emmi was not. In June while she was here, we were on our way to a meeting in Carluke and she said she wanted to be born-again and baptized. After Ken talked with her, we pulled off the motorway and Emmi prayed the sinners and was born-again on Saturday, 14th of June at 3:02p.m. alongside the M8!!! The following day, she was baptized in the Firth of Forth in Kirkcaldy. Unfortunately, she had to go back home the following day, but she has gone home a new creation in Christ!!! She and Elisa are now doing bible studies over the net and are going through a personal discipleship class now and soon to start the Book of Ephesians study by Lenya Heitzig. It’s such a blessing to see both Emmi and Elisa growing in the Lord.


Happy 1st Birthday Tricia

This has been some year for Tricia as we have watched her ups and downs in her walk with the Lord. August 6th she celebrated her first birthday with the Lord. This has definitely been a year of changes for her. What a pleasure to see the growth she is making, she is coming out of her shell and letting walls fall down that she thought would never come down. She has lived in Abbeyview, known as a tough neighborhood. Because of the neighborhood, her son Mark (13 years old) could not go out his front door alone; she lived in constant fear of her neighbors and was kept up late at night as they partied till all hours of the night. Many times Mark missed school as he was just too tired to go after being kept up all night by the neighbours. We have prayed for them to be able to get another house and this past week, God blessed them with one in the Baldridgeburn area of Dunfermline, a much better place. They are so pleased to be in their new home. Tricia is doing weekly discipleship classes with Evie, at first, she wasn’t sure if she wanted to, but now looks forward to each meeting and can hardly wait for the next one. She is already asking what study they will do when this study is finished.


Love of the Lord

Sometimes the best way to show the love of the Lord is by “doing”. These have been a busy couple of months for both Evie and Ken. Evie spent a couple weeks stripping wallpaper for one of the ladies in the fellowship. Mary an elderly lady was wanting to decorate her house, which meant stripping wallpaper and painting. As the Lord had worked it out that Evie was off work, she was able to bless Mary by stripping her walls for her and help to paint her living room prior to Ella doing the wallpaper. Evie thought no problem, she’s done lots of wallpaper and painting, but here the wallpaper is stripped with hot water and a scrapper, very tedious and very hard! But was so worth it as it really blessed Mary. Evie no sooner finished at Mary’s when a couple in the church bought their first home and were looking at painting and wallpapering their new home. Evie, Elisa and I both have been working there for a couple weeks now, helping pack their old home, then painting the new one and papering the bedroom for them. Ken has been busy helping to build their kitchen cupboards, remove kitchen tiles and sanding walls along with his regular job. Now, we are starting to pack our own home as we prepare for the arrival of Scott and Patti Worth from California.

Finally, at long last, Scott and Patti will be joining us here in the ministry!!! Praise God, we are so excited to see what He has in store for Dunfermline as they join us. They will be living with us as it will be cheaper all the way around. We are packing up Ken’s office so Elisa can have that room for now as we are looking for a larger house for all of us. Please keep this in prayer as we are looking at a house that appears perfect, but we are waiting on the Lord’s confirmation on the house. Pray for Scott and Patti as they have been under tremendous attacks from the enemy.


Evie job

Evie started a new job yesterday—she was so excited to be back at work again. She has been off work since December and is now working at local ladies clothing store. She will be working part-time so she can continue with the Ladies ministry classes. She will be having Wednesday afternoons off for the Ladies Bible studies and Friday afternoons for the discipleship class with Tricia. Again, the Lord’s timing is perfect as had she been working, she would not have been able to help the ladies with decorating their houses.


Late night calls

In May, Evie got a phone call late at night from a young lady that she hadn’t heard from in a year. The young lady was frantic, contemplating suicide, she had actually locked herself up in the bathroom, and was crying out to God that if He didn’t want her to follow through with the suicide, then He would have to show her what to do. She said He clearly told her to call Evie, so she called and said she wasn’t even sure if Evie would remember her as they had only briefly met. To her surprise Evie remembered her, so after talking on the phone a few minutes, Evie went to her home and brought her back home to our house. Evie spent the night with her praying, reading scripture and talking to her. Praise God, she did not follow through with the suicide. She came a couple weeks to fellowship and church, but because of various things has not been back. She does stay in touch with Evie calls a couple times a week, pray that she comes back into fellowship and doesn’t allow the things of the world to come first.

Elisa

Yes, Elisa is back with us—praise God! Her visa finally came through and she now has a two year visa. She will graduate Calvary Chapel Bible College York in December. She is again teaching Sunday School and helping wherever needed. Keep her in prayer as she travels weekly to York by train and back. Elisa is also working part-time as a waitress and her first week back, tore her achilles tendon. She went to the hospital and had it checked out—she was out of work for a few weeks, is back now, but still having trouble with her tendon. Doctors have told her it’s ok to work, just to be careful. Please keep this in prayer as well, that it heals properly and that it won’t be too painful for her.


Outreaches


The Dunfermline Gala—, June was the local Children’s Gala for Dunfermline. This is an annual event held for children. All the local schools participate, there is a parade followed by a carnival type atmosphere in the glen (park). This is sponsored by the community and is one of the biggest events in the town each year, there are bouncy castles, games booths, face painting, etc. The theme this year was “Country Western”. The event is geared towards kindergarten to junior high, so we decided to do a booth geared towards the younger kids this year. We had a gold panning booth in which the kid could pan for gold (toy coins with John 3:16 on them or gold painted rocks). Prizes or sweeties were given to everyone regardless of whether or not they won and all was FREE of charge. As all other booths were at least 2 pounds to play, the parents were hesitant to let their children play—until they realized it was free! They were quite surprised that anyone would do anything for free and that the kids could play as many times as they wanted, getting something each time! We told them who we were and that we only wanted to share with them the love of the Lord, each received a flyer giving details of the churches times and location of services. So it was a great day, people were touched with the love of the Lord and we continue to pray that hearts would be won to Him.

Skate Demo—August was our first Skate demo in the park. A team from Oceanhills brought over 13 year old skater Dakota. Dakota skated on his razor skooter showing those there the various tricks and giving them tips. Jim Nicol, pastor of
Oceanhills then did an informal interview with Dakota asking him about his faith in Jesus Christ as the crowd gathered around to hear what he had to say. The enemy tried his best to stop the skate demo as there were 2 men at the park that were resurfacing the skate park that day. We asked if they could stop until the demo was finished and were told no. A few minutes later, Jim was able to persuade them to take a “break”, that break lasted about an hour as Dakota was able to both skate and share a little of his testimony with the kids. While Jim was sharing the gospel, a man in the audience came to the front and shared in a loud voice that he was an astronomer and didn’t appreciate Jim sharing his views. Jim let him talk then carried on sharing the gospel. This man left, phoned the police and then went to the local newspaper. You can see the article at www.dunfermlinepress.com, go to search and type in skate demo, the headlines in the paper read “Father’s Fury; Fellowship accused of using skate demonstration to proselytize—Dad hits out at Christian group’s skate demo event” The police response in the paper read—the skate park is a public place and as long as no one is comitting a criminal offence, they have the same right to be there as anyone else!



Concert—the same night as the skate demo, Holland Davis, worship leader of Oceanhills, lead a Night of Praise concert at the High School where we worship on Sundays. We had a great time of praise and worship and all were totally blessed! A friend of ours said she ran into a woman who had been at the concert and attends another fellowship who said it was the best night she had had in ages and that when she becomes ”down”, she will always have this night to look back on and remember how blessed she felt. Please pray for this woman that she would be encouraged and come to know the true love of the Lord. There was another woman there also, who said she hadn’t realized how dry she had become. She is quite involved in another fellowship as well, but said she would like to come along to the Thursday night home fellowships and Wednesday ladies studies as she need the fellowship and love she felt there. Pray for her as well

Elisa Gets visa!!!
All in God’s time! Wow, that can be a hard one, His time, not now,wait on Him, I know we aren’t the only ones that struggle with that, when we want something, we want it now, but God says I have a better plan and you are going to wait! Ouch, that’s tough, but how much better it is when we do wait on Him! Elisa has been trying for almost 7 years to get her Visa to be here in Scotland with us. We’ve tried several different ways all to no avail, BUT God’s plan was to get her here to finish her schooling and in doing that she has also gotten a 2 year visa enabling her to work part-time as well as I interning at the church. She will be helping with Sunday School and prayerfully start up a girls discipleship class again. When she was here last, she discipled 2 teen girls, one of the girls, has gone on to help start a church plant in Germany. She will finish school May 15th and then come to stay with us. While here, she will complete her final semester by correspondence and will graduate Calvary Bible College in December! It’s been a long haul for her, but she has clung to God’s promises and believed she would be back here someday to complete that which He began and now 7 years later, we are seeing just that take place!! Praise God!!! Thank you Lord for Your faithfulness!

Time with family
January was Ava’s 3rd birthday and we were blessed to be able to celebrate with her and the family at Disneyland! It’s been ages since we’ve been there and what a joy it is to see it through the eyes of children! Everything is just so much more fun as you see the excitement in their eyes!
We were able to spend 3 1/2 weeks in California and Arizona with family. Evie got sick while there and spent most of the time in Arizona in the house unable to talk as she totally lost her voice. This was the worst cold she’s had in ages as she was sick for 7 weeks.

Because she was so sick while in Arizona, she didn’t get to spend but a few hours with her mom (couldn’t take the chance of exposing her to any virus). A few weeks after returning home, (and a dose of antibiotics) Evie was called that her mom’s cancer had progressed and wasn’t looking to promising. The cancer had engulfed Lily’s liver and the doctor told the family to just basically make her comfortable, let her eat whatever she wanted and regulate with insulin. After praying about returning, the Lord provided a return ticket for Evie to spend 4 weeks with her mom. It was a wonderful time as she was able to spend a great majority it with her mom. They were able to just sit and chat, play scrabble and just enjoy each others company. The Lord blessed Evie in having time alone to share with her mom about the Lord and to know that she is saved and Heaven bound, praise God! It was the assurance that Evie needed to have peace with the situation being so far away. Lily is doing as well as can be expected and is in wonderful spirits. She is just about pain free—praise God! Please pray that she continue without pain.


Tricia
As you may remember, Tricia gave her heart to the Lord August last year, we would ask that you keep her in your prayers as she struggles with her walk. She had started a discipleship class with Ella in September and never got past the first couple weeks, she continues to come Sundays, Ladies Bible Studies and Home fellowships, potlucks, basically anytime we have anything on. She struggles with reading the Word so we gave her audio tapes and she admits she doesn’t listen to them. She has had some really tough times and can’t quite grab ahold of the fact that God loves her no matter what her past and has a hard time forgiving those who hurt her. Evie has tried to come alongside and encourage her, but Tricia will be the first to admit she doesn’t let people get close to her. Last week, Evie went for a long visit and asked her if she would like to start the discipleship class again, this time with her. Tricia said she would have to think about it and last night has said she’s not ready (although she has already done the first lesson). She lacks self-confidence and believes she can’t do anything, all a by-product of her past. Please pray that she pick up her bible and read it as it’s the only way she is going to grow, she wants to and knows that she should, but just can’t seem to take that step, so afraid of failing. Also, please pray for her son Mark (also saved) who is beginning to mix with the wrong crowd.

Ladies Studies/Home Fellowship
We are continuing on our overview through the Bible in both the ladies and home fellowships. This has been a real encouraging time and has sparked many an interesting conversation. We just finished Titus/Philemon last night.
The ladies are also memorizing the Books of the Bible. Several didn’t know where the various books were and would struggle to find them, so Evie has asked them to try and memorize them. At first, they thought no way, that was too much, but all have agreed to attempt it, even Tricia who said no way could she learn them; has learned the first 10 books (with God all things are possible!!) We keep telling her she is smarter than she thinks. She really needs to just be encouraged along.

Scott and Patti
Scott and Patti are preparing to join us here, prayerfully the end of May. They have been enjoying the “pre-move” ministry trials that most of us face prior to going on the mission field. Please keep them in prayer as they have been attacked physically as Patti had blood clots in her legs and lungs shortly after her knee surgery in January and Scott had a cyst removed at basically the same time. Scott is doing fine and Patti is getting better, but is on meds to thin her blood and tires quite easily. The enemy doesn’t want them coming as we know the Lord is going to use them in the ministry here.

Elisa’s visa
It’s been a long process, but Elisa’s application for permanent residency has been denied and without a right to appeal! So when we go back to the states May 6th, for a visit, looks as if Elisa will be moving back in with her sister , Erica and brother-in-law, Shawn. Please pray for us all as we deal with the fact that she really is going back and how to get all her things back. We will be calling a solicitor on Tuesday just to verify that we haven’t missed anything, if he confirms that there is nothing else to be done, then we know that this is God’s will for her and look forward to seeing what blessings He has in store for her in Arizona with her sister.

Prayer walkThis past Friday, we held our first Prayer Walk in Dunfermline. We had a week of prayer and fasting and ended with the prayer walk around Dunfermline as we prayed for the youth, the lost, town leaders, churches, spirit of depression, the strongholds of the enemy to be broken. We had a team of 12 from Oceanside, California come and join us on our walk. I sent out emails to some of the local churches and was surprised by the responses I received. In the past, when I invited other churches to do things with us, they always declined, this time we received emails from several pastors that said they would join us in prayer and were excited to know that someone was walking the streets in prayer. It was very encouraging to get responses from them. Prayerfully this is the first of many. We had a few turn out, and we broke into 3 groups and had a wonderful time of prayer. Below is one of the emails we received after the walk from one of the participants:

This is the Year when the Holy Spirit will reclaim Dunfermline and the villages for many blessings. Get ready folk. We’ve a lot to do and much of it we haven’t even dreamed of!

Trip stateside
We will be in the states from May 6th through the 19th and would love to see or hear from you while there. We’ll be staying at Erica and Shawn’s home in Phoenix (480-785-2787) feel free to call for a chat or a visit. We are looking forward to a time of visiting with our families, friends, brother and sisters in the Lord and with out a doubt playing with our grandkids!! We will also be planning to up visiting our church family at Calvary Chapel Camp Verde and so We really hope to see or hear from you. And if anyone has an extra car that we could borrow while there, it would be much appreciated.
